instant fisherman rod and reel as seen on tv?
Hi I was wondering if anyone have ever tried fishing with this product? I have never fish before and would like to try it out..Looking for a cheap, but decent one. This one is seen on tv and is pretty cheap with 10 year warranty.Check it out
http://www.instantfisherman.net/?TrackId=1586419&Custom=
everybody is saying zebco 33.very decent price. Does it matter if its for freshwater fishing or saltwater? I live in los angeles and plan on saltwater of course. Any fishing lure advices?thanks
Don't bother..... stuff like that shown on TV is usually total cr*p compared to stuff made by dedicated tackle companies such as Shakespeare / Daiwa / Shimano / Zebco / Okuma / Berkley / Abu-Garcia / Fenwick, etc.
Try a few out in a proper tackle shop first....... alot of anglers liken choosing a rod to choosing a partner, and a rod that feels brilliant to one angler when holding it..... another may not get along with at all. Kinda hard to explain, but you know you've found the right rod for you once you've got it in your hands.

Saltwater Fishing Rods
What is the best saltwater flats fishing rod/reel under $200? mainly for trout, redfish, snook, etc?
I'm looking to find a new rod & reel for my boyfriend for his birthday. We mainly fish the flats around Bradenton, FL and fish with topwater lures, gulps, and greenbacks. He wants an extra rod/reel but I don't know what to pick. Currently we have a Shimano Startic 4000 series and 2500 series. He likes sensitive one piece poles. This gives you an idea of what he likes. Does anyone have any suggestions of a good reel and rod that is under $200? I can go a little higher if needed. Please help!! Thanks!
Considering you have Stradics right now, I'm going to assume that you want to stick with a spinning setup. There are a few things I can recommend...
For Rods:
Fenwick Intercostal $100
Shimano Teramar $110
Falcon Coastal Inshore $100
Quantum Boca Inshore $90
For Reels:
Quantum Boca $110 (really good)
Daiwa Tierra $114 (reliable, good)
Shimano Spheros $80 (good)
Shimano Saros $120 (good...just above the spheros)
Okuma Inspira $90 (above average-good)
Penn Sargus $80 (average-good)
For a little less money... take a look at the Saltwater Combo section of Cabelas. They have some good combos, all for under $200. I would recommend the Quantum Boca/Salt Striker...or...Shimano Saros/Salt Striker - both are pretty good.

Daiwa Fishing Rods
Daiwa, Okuma, Tsunami, Penn, or Lamiglass rod?
I'm planning on buying a heavy 10 or 11' surf fishing rod and can't decide which of the above brands to go with. The ones I checked out cost about the same, but I'm not sure if that means the same quality. I welcome any help. Thanks.
Here are the particular types I'm considering: Daiwa Emcast Surf 11' Heavy, Okuma Longitude 11' Heavy, Tsunami Trophy Surf 11' Heavy, Penn Pro Guide 11' Heavy, Lamiglas Surfking 10' Med. Heavy. Thanks for all the help so far. I like Ugly Stiks too, but now I need something light and slim.
There ARE alternatives:
1. St. Croix 10' Triumph Surf Spin ($120)
Nice rod, & St. Croix!
2. The New Cabelas 10' "Salt Striker" ($89.99)
But to be honest, I think Ingun is TOTALLY right.
A 7' "Tiger Lite" or a 10' 6" Ugly Stik is your BEST choice. Ugly Stik makes an excellent Surf Rod. And at $59 & $99 it's a bargain. Go to Cabelas and look at the reviews for Ugly Stik Surf Rods!
If I had to pick from the above: Lamiglass or Daiwa.
Hope this helps? Good luck!

Trout Fishing Rods
A very popular kind of fishing today is the Trout fishing, which people indulge in for different reasons. Some do it as a sport, others to procure food and still others as a trade and profession. To have a successful trout fishing trip you should be geared up for it and for this you ought to have some knowledge about trout fishing. To begin your lesson on trout fishing you could just read on.
1. Learn more about Trout fishing
If this is going to be your first experience with Trout fishing you will have to get to know a lot about the fish, like where they are found, their habits and then it will be easier for you to fish for trout.
After getting to know the habits of the trout you will also need the right equipment to go trout fishing. For trout fishing you should have a net to get a hold of the fish apart from the hook and line, as the trout can break away with the line and the hook while you are trying to drag it from the water. This would be bad for you as well as the fish that will still have the hook in it when it breaks away.
To remove a hook that has been swallowed you would need a haemostat. In case you need to wade into the water you should equip yourself with waders or water proof boots to keep your feet protected. Among other essentials you will need a fishing vest so that you can carry all the fundamentals with you and always within reach. All this apart you would also need a reel and a rod.
2. The type of rod and reel for trout fishing
The kind of equipment you need depends mainly on the kind of fish you are planning to catch. For smaller fish it would suffice to have a cheaper variety of spin-cast style reel and rod, however, if you plan on angling for larger fish, you will have to ensure that you get something that is strong enough to endure the weight of the fish. If this is going to be something that you will be experiencing often, then as a professional trout fisherman you would need a more advanced kind of equipment. You could then go in for an ultra-light rod which is much more flexible, easier to cast, and would also make it easier to let you know that you have a bite on your line. You can sense your strike more effortlessly in a light rod.
For better casting and an easier float you should get a rod that is around six feet or a little more. You could also try an ultra-light spinning reel that is specially designed for a light line like the 4-pound test.
The angle and the technique is another essential thing to know. But with the trout nothing is constant, you will have to take things one day at a time and try and learn all the different tricks of the trade. Something that holds good one day may not work on the next, so you will have to cope s you go along.

Loomis IMX Rod, not the top of the line but not is really an excellent rod for crappie. If you will spend ten hours or more per day on the lake for several days and weeks of the year you want to invest in one of the most advanced models expensive to be your last through the whole season. However, if you do post a few times for short excursions, you should definitely consider a rod of Economics.
In terms of crappie fishing reels themselves, Take a look at some of the models released by Shimano. The Sustain 1000 and 2000 and the roll casting Calais all come highly recommended. Daiwa Fishing Rod
Japanese jigging, butterfly jigging and jigging are terms used to describe a contemporary technique for fishing with long metal jigs, in a rhythmic action. The action goes something like this: drop the rod tip and wind the reel one revolution, lift the rod tip and repeat at speed, through the fish active water column. Sounds awkward but with practice it becomes a natural fluid action. Mechanical jigging is very effective, often out-fishing traditional speed jigging, mainly because the lure is kept longer in the fish zone and a more frenzied lure action produces more bites.
Rods used are short, non-traditional parabolic high modulus graphite rods, which are very strong with huge lifting power and the parabolic action imparts some fluidity to the jig. These rods are generally not parabolic in the original sense but, with great hoop strength and thick walls, they are capable of handling heavy braid and massive drag pressures. Know this: not all rods are created equal. There are some real back-breaking shockers out there. Most good rods are factory-tested so if you break one, warranty claims may on deaf ears because it may have been used outside the manufacturer’s specifications.Rods are given a PE rating, which is the braid-breaking strain: PE-8 is 80lb, PE-5 is 50lb generally. Rods also have a rating for recommended lure weight, maximum reel drag setting and maximum angle at which the highest drag setting can be applied to not point-load the rod. Some popular rods are Smiths, Shimano jigwrex, Shimano blue rose, Xzoga, Jigging master, Terminator, Daiwa Monster Mesh and power jig rods.
The reel specs are as follows: braid capable, ideally narrow, low speed – between 4 and 5:1 for heavy braid PE 5 -8 (that’s 50 to 80lb, but usually breaks at 100 to 150lb crazy ratings but that's the world of braid) and up to 6:1 ratio for lighter braid is fine.Popular reel brands include Daiwa Saltist, Daiwa Saltiga, Shimano Ocean Jigger, Shimano Torsa, Shimano Trinidad, Accurate Reel, and Fin-nor Offshores. There are also some exotics like Blue Heaven and Pro Gear. Factory drags are often up-rated with carbontex kits but be warned: this can void a warranty. However, you will find that these reels can take it when market handles (like the Power jig T-bar and Accurate round knobs) are fitted, making it more comfortable and less abrasive than a rubber handle. Spin or overhead? In New Zealand, we’re about 80/20 in favour of overhead. Daiwa Saltiga Expedition 6000, Shimano Stella SW 20000 and Fin-nor Offshore 7500 8500 are the pick of the bunch and will handle PE 5-8 braid and all low speed so you can get a crank on decent fish. Metal jigs, long jigs, knife jigs, 7 gram to 700 gram, centre, tail- and head-weighted, all shapes and sizes – there is a huge variety of jigs, from designer to cheap. But you do get what you pay for. Good jigs don't bend so much, the paint and prism film doesn't lift and the wire that sticks out the end goes right through the jig. A kevlar cord, via a solid ring that is, in turn, attached to the jig by a strong split ring, usually connects the hook. Hooks need to be super-sharp and strong to ensure good penetration and holding power. Reliable brands include Zest Jigs, Powerjig, River 2 Sea, Hook Choice, Fisherman, Owner Monster and Mustad Hoodlum.

Every crappie fisherman has had his good days and bad. The trick is to avoid common mistakes in any crappie fisherman make so you can always increase the chances a good match. Let's face again, our fishing time is precious. Most of us work jobs full time, and when we go fishing, it is our version of the constant tension of life. I did some extensive research on fish and fisheries has been developed following errors common fish fishing.
Error in fishing for Patience # 1 not "pay" with Crappie We've all heard people say that patience pays when fishing. Unfortunately, this is not correct for catching bluegill. Type of fish is a schooling fish and is important to find the schools. So when your fishing for crappie it is very important to be in constant motion to find the crappie schools.
Error A crappie Fishing Cast # 2-sharp hooks!
Ever hook and thought you had to type fish safely? The problem is not your fishing technique, it is likely that the hooks. It is important to replace the hooks on each bite 4 or spend a few moments to sharpen your hook. You'd be surprised the difference is that a sharp hook. The best way to sharpen hooks with a flat file first deposit outside the point of hook. Then you need a weapon double-edged hook sharpening file that sharpens both sides point.
Error in fishing for # 3 does not use a topographic map
I am sure that when you go vacation anywhere, do advance planning or mapping, the search for the card or travel ticket. Well, it's the same in planning a fishing trip. If you have water that fish can identify channels and bushes and the shallow water fish. This simple step can make or break a fishing trip. I'm surprised how many fishermen can not make this step easier. You can select one of these cards for 3 or Bucks in all bait shops in the area to be fishing.
The failure fishing for # 4 to stop the boat when trolling
It is better to have 2 people drag along when for crappie. If you have multiple poles in the water when you get a fish to be saved, as many Poles left behind as possible. If you stop the boat that releases the correct depth where fish and you must go through installation again. With a second person, a person may continue to roll the boat, while the other person re-baits the poles. You'd be surprised how people make this mistake in May when trolling.
Error in fishing for # 5 Getting to close to the fish.
The first reaction is to get close you can fish. But it is a big mistake. What happens is your boat is a warning and can scare the fish, if you get close. The best thing to do is get a long cane pole or rod telescopic so you can reach around 10 or 15 feet in the area of weeds that want to fish. It is a grave mistake to go near the fish.

Penn Fishing Rods
For almost eight decades PENN Company has devoted itself to be the topmost manufacturer of fishing equipment. Since 1932 this company has been churning out and also designing extremely durable and log lasting gear for fishing. People now weigh the fishing equipment with the standards set by the PENN angling gear as required quality criteria for the market.
Founding of PENN Company
Otto Henze is the founder of PENN. He left another organization to starts his own company which he founded in 1933. Initially Otto Henze manufactured two kinds of reels which came to be known as the best and most popular saltwater reel at that time. From the start of the company PENN angling tackle has been known for the ingenuity, durability and quality of its goods. To this day this reputation is carried on for all the equipment produced by PENN.
Diversified into many kinds of equipment
Now PENN is into producing several kinds of equipment for fishing. Their main focus is to make more durable rods and a higher quality of reels, but their ingenuity does not end here. They also offer a range of trimmings as well to maintain the reel and rod in good working condition. This apart PENN also makes a line of particular trill reels which are used for fishing operations on a large scale and commercial rigs. The equipment that is made by PENN Company is not just durable and effective; it is also very stylish and sleek in its finish.
The customers well being is also kept in mind while manufacturing the fishing gear on one side by PENN. They have also started a clothing line and other personal protective gear for the customer, so that the person will get maximum protection while out in difficult weather conditions. For wet and stormy weather the protective wear is made from materials that are resistant to water and will keep the person dry and warm. Like all their other equipment these items are also strong and can stand the test of time.
Besides this, PENN also produces fishing lines, reeds and rods. The research and development department has done them good and their products are easily the best in the industry today. Most of the products manufactured by them are keeping the salt water angler in mind, as even the fishing line that is made by PENN is particularly for big game and fishing in saltwater. So in case you are thinking of fishing in the sea, the fishing line made by PENN would be perfect.
To ensure that the customer can take good care of all the equipment that they have bought from the, PENN has also collaborated with other companies to develop lubricants and cleaners that will take care and maintain all the equipment in perfect condition. As saltwater can cause the equipment to rust they have worked on developing a rust inhibitor that is of a special kind to make sure that the reel you have got from PENN stays new with proper maintenance.
