Saltwater Gulp Fishing
Dropshot fishing technique?
i have recently bought a packet of those berkley gulp sand worm dropshots. i have no clue how to fish with them! i'm always getting them stuck on rocks. are u slowly supposed to reel them in or do u just leave them out in the water? it's kind of difficult to keep tension on the line so u can feel the bite without getting it stuck on rocks. help please! Saltwater fishing, not freshwater
How to Fish a Drop Shot Rig
The drop-shot rig is a finesse technique that has taken the bass fishing world by storm. A drop-shot rig will often catch fish when reaction baits just won't do the trick.
Steps
1.Yamamoto has a complete kit for drop-shotting
Drop-shotting is a finesse technique that requires light line, so use a spinning outfit spooled up with 6- to 10-pound-test line.
2.Streamers make great drop-shot baits
Using a Palomar knot, tie a small drop-shot hook onto the line, about 18 inches up from the end. Tie so that the hook stands out perpendicular from the line.
3.At the tag end of the line, about 18 inches from the hook, tie on a drop-shot weight.
4.Put a small finesse bait on the hook. Four-inch worms, small tubes and grubs are good drop-shot baits. In California, the bass anglers are beginning to use some flies, like streamers, on their drop-shot rigs.
5.Lake Powell drop-shotting
Drop the rig straight down over the side of the boat (no casting right now). When the line goes slack, reel up until the line is taut and the weight is on the bottom.
6.With the weight on the bottom, shake the rod gently. You just want to wiggle the lure without lifting the weight.
7.A bite may be anything from a tug to a sideways movement. If your hooks are good and sharp, all you have to do is reel hard to set the hook.
8.Don't horse the fish in. Remember you have light line on.
9.After landing a fish, check your knots and hook and go back to it. On a good piece of structure, there may be several good Bass.
Tips
•Fluorocarbon line costs more, but since it is crystal clear and has no stretch, it is ideal for drop-shotting.
•You can make your own drop-shot weights by pinching one end of a barrel swivel in a split-shot. The swivel helps reduce line twist.
•Once you get good at drop-shotting vertically, you can start to experiment with casting out and dragging the rig back, and fishing it over breaklines and other kinds of structure.
•You dont have to tie a hook directly to the line. You can add a barrel swivel, and extend a piece of line, and hook approximately 2-4" from the swivel.
Warnings
•Casting a drop-shot rig can be dangerous, so be careful, and don't try it if you don't have plenty of fishing experience. Since the weight and hook are separated, it's easy to hook your partner (or yourself)if you don't watch out.
Things You'll Need
•Monofilament or fluorocarbon line in 6- to 10-pound-test.
•Hooks (many companies now make hooks specifically for drop-shotting.
•Drop-shot weights
•Small soft plastic baits such as worms, Yamamoto Senkos, grubs, tubes, etc.

Fish Hook
What is the best way to get a fish hook out of a dogs lip?
People get piercings in wierd places, why not dogs? LOL! If the hook doesn't go all the way through, what do you suggest? Also, pain relievers, sedatives, anything to make it easier on the dog?
My dog found a fishing lure and got it caught in his bottom lip. It is past the barb and I was wondering if anyone knew any tricks to get it out. Without the sarcastic remarks.
I had a dog that got a fishhook stuck thru the tip of her nose. Careless people leaving their garbage lying around, no regard for others coming behind them.
I was stuck and had to do it myself... She sat patiently in front of me, looking at me with a look on her face that said she needed me to take it out now..
I had no choice and thought back quickly to what my dad had told me as a kid. So I closed my eyes and pushed the hook the rest of the way thru the skin and when I looked, she was still watching me. The hook was thru. I clipped off the barb from the end of the hook and slid it back out thru her nose. I cleaned it with alcohol, put on some polysporin and she happily went on her way.
Sometimes we are in a situation where a vet isn't handy, so you have to use your common sense. Vet has since looked at the nose and she was perfectly fine, needed nothing more. This was 4 years ago, and the dog and her nose are doing great.
Keep a good First Aid kit with you when you are out and life can still go on with common sense..

In this article I'm going to list some of the most effective types of bait for largemouth bass. This article will list the natural baits and the more popular lures that imitate them. Any of these baits can be used live as largemouth bass bait as well. As a matter of fact, fishing with live bait for largemouth can be extremely effective, and any of these baits work great for these voracious predators.
One of the main things to remember when it comes to fishing for largemouth bass is that these fish love cover. Some types of "bass fishing cover" would include: lily pads, submerged trees or brush, flooded creek channels, and drop offs. They use cover to ambush their prey, and all of the baits below are prey for largemouth bass.
Large Aquatic & Terrestrial Insects - Large insects of all kinds are great largemouth bass bait. Depending on the body of water you're fishing in, the insects will change, but some of the more common are: hellgrammites, dragon flies, and large nymphs. The most popular artificial largemouth bass baits that imitate large insects are soft plastics, or Berkley's Gulp products (which are just like soft plastics, just more effective).
Crayfish - Crayfish are a very effective bait for largemouth bass. These freshwater crustaceans are like candy for our silver friends. Large crayfish are an excellent bait for large bass. Live crayfish are difficult to fish with, but it can be done effectively with gang hooks. Some of the most popular artificial lures would include: The bush bug, Paca Craws, and the GYCD Fat Baby Craw.
Bait Fish - Bait fish are great bait for these bass, and the bait fish that's most prevalent in the body of water that you're fishing is your best bet. Bait fish can be used live or as artificial lures. Some of the more popular live bait fish for largemouth would include: scuds, shad, minnows or shiners and sunfish. Some of the more popular artificial versions that can be used as largemouth bass bait would include: The KickTail Minnow, Rapala's, Smithwick Rogues, and the Bomber Model A.
Frogs - Frogs are a great bait for these predators. As a matter of fact, largemouth bass are so predatory there don't even have to be a lot of frogs present in your fishing water for frogs to be effective. Live frogs are very difficult to fish with, but can be extremely effective. Some of the more popular artificial frogs would include: The Spro Brozeye Frog, Mann's Superfrog, and Berkley's Power frogs. All of these artificial frogs are very effective largemouth bass baits.
So, what are the best baits for largemouth bass? Any of the above will work very well, and should be added to your bass fishing arsenal sooner rather than later. At the end of the day, the "best" bait for largemouth will vary from situation to situation. Hence the reason fishing for largemouth bass is so addictive and enjoyable, it's a puzzle that never truly gets solved.

Penn Special
what are my odds of getting into penn state?
i'm currently a junior. i have a 3.7 gpa unweighted, and a 4.8 weighted. i haven't taken my sats yet and i'm still waiting on my psat scores back. i'm in spanish club, renaissance, multicultural club, T.H.I.S., SMAC, i run spring track, and i played soccer my freshman year. i've done some community service here and there, and i will be volunteering at the special olympics in june. what do you think my chances are of getting into penn state university park?
A 3.7 GPA is solid, though I'm not sure how your school's weighting works, as a jump from 3.7 to 4.8 is pretty major. I graduated with a 4.0 that was a 4.2 weighted . . .
Anyway, I've known freshman to start at PSU with weaker GPAs than that. And being in a variety of clubs certainly helps. The SATs will be important, though--with a school as large as Penn State and with as many satellite campuses as PSU has, I think they rely on the SAT as the great leveler, since (test validity aside) it's the one comparison point that is truly uniform.
One thing I can suggest is being willing to start over the summer--that always helps your application. I've known three Penn State students in the last ten years who wouldn't have been accepted to University Park as freshmen had they not been willing to start over the summer between H.S. graduation and the start of the fall semester. All three got a LOT out of the summer program, too--it was a great way to wean into college life and to make a lot of friends before the mass influx of students in mid-August. And if agreeing to start early gains you acceptance to main campus right away, it's DEFINITELY worth it!
