Bass Casting How to catch big bass when all i catch in the lake is small ones?
I keep catching small bass in this lake that ive never caught anything bigger than a 3 pounder but i know thers bigger ones ive seen them jump.Ive done everything right in the way of fishing like casting near structure but i need to know what lures i should use. I really want to start catching bigger things. Right now im using a small spinner lure. what should i use and how should i use it to catch the big ones?
A spinner bait is a great bass lure for sheer numbers of bass and even will catch larger bass during the spawn. But the spinner is not known as a big bass bait. Because the areas you fish the spinner bait in does not hold big bass unless the spawn is going on. Change your lures and your tactics for larger bass. Fish areas of the lake that has a drop off and fish the edges of the drop off and into the deeper water, And find the outside grass line that is in deeper water, The larger bass will sometimes hold in this area farther out in the deeper water. And if you have cypress trees in your lake fish the larger ones that are standing off by them selves. Fish all sides of it and move on to the next one. And fish the cypress trees that line the edges of the creek channels right before it drops into deeper water. And any points that have held fish, move out to the deeper waters off the point and fish it hard. I notice the bigger fish will usually farther off the point in deeper water. These are the lures that I have had success on for bigger fish. Bass jigs with trailers on them, craw worms with 1\4 ounce sliding lead weigthts rigged Texas style, Plastic lizards rigged the same way, and Zoom Brush Hogs rigged the same as the craws and the lizards. But a word of advice- there are on occasion times when you may catch one big bass a trip. But most of the time the fish will be average size. But on some rare occasions, the big ones will hit most of the day. This is what you go for.You may catch a limit of 10 and 3 or more may go over 5 lbs and the rest 3-4 lbs. This is the ultimate fishing experience for me. But you know what? At this stage of my life, I am just as happy catching a lot of 1-3 lb bass. It's all fun.
When you want to learn how to fish bass, the first thing you need is the right equipment. This doesn't mean you have to stock up on different kinds of rods or purchase a large selection of lures. You have to learn the technique of the sport first. Beginners should start with one spinning rod and one casting rod. Both of these should be 5 or 6 feet in length, be if medium stiff material and in the mid-price range of rods. If you ask the dealer at the store, he/she will be glad to point you in the right direction for both the rod and the reel that best suits the rid you choose.
There are some things you have to learn before you cast out for the first time. This involves attaching the reel to the rod. When you attach the reel, lay the rod across your open hand. If it is attached properly, the rod should balance. This is important for your cast because if the rod and reel are not balanced, your cast will go to either the left or the right of where you want it to go. Casting out with an unbalanced rod will also make your wrist very sore.
Practice casting out using a lure but don't use a hook. You can easily do this in a small pond or even in your backyard. Without the hook, you won't get the line tangled in anything. The best line to use is 10-pound test monofilament line. It is very fine, yet strong enough to withstand the fight of the bass and any tangles in vegetation.
The types of lures available are mind-boggling. When choosing lures, you have to consider the situations in which you will use them. The most common are spinners, deep divers and plastic worms. For bass fishing you will also need crankbaits that closely resemble the type of food that bass eat, such as perch, sunfish, shad, minnow and carp. Noisy baits are best when fishing in the early morning or late in the evening. These are usually buzz baits, which are spinners with yellow or white skirt. You should also have a floating lure that you can twitch a little, retrieve, stop and repeat the actions. You also need a tackle box in which you keep all this bass fishing gear.
If you fish off a dock, the best type of lure to use is a Texas rig. When you start to retrieve, do so very slowly. Lift the tip of your rod each time, but keep the line tight in your free hand so that you can feel the tug on the line when the bass bites.
Fishing bass is a learning experience in which you have to be very observant of the conditions of the lake and water. You should also learn about the bass itself so you can learn about its feeding habits and times when it will be inactive. When fishing a lake, divide it into sections and fish each one separately until you find out where the bass are located.

Ive got a Brownie No2 camera that I borrowed form my uncle who got it at a car boot sale. As far as I know and can tell it should work. However, I want to shoot with 35mm film. Ive seen various mods and things for Holgas and Dianas...is it the same principal? I have a spare 120 spool if that is any help. I just really have no clue as to how I should go about it.
Assuming you mean one of these

they don't take 35mm film
You could probably botch something up but why? - just use it as it is meant to be used.

The Fiji Islands are fortunate enough to enjoy Yellowfin tuna fishing pretty much all year round. The tuna migrate North past Fiji to the spawning grounds in the Indian Ocean and then come back through our waters on their return trip South.
They are voracious predators that specialise in balling up baitfish, then smashing into the tightly packed ball from below, often leaping clean into the air, such is the speed of their attack. Yellowfin maintain a higher body temperature than the surrounding ocean giving them the ability to display sustained high speed bursts and dogged determined hard fighting abilities. They have a relatively high percentage of dark meat as opposed to white meat which basically means they fight hard and can go on fighting hard for extended periods. Their dorsal and pectoral fins fold into slots on their body making them perfectly streamlined for high speed. Their dorsal & anal finlets are specifically designed for high speed stability and drag reduction. When you hook up to a Yellowfin you know you have a battle on your hands.
Yellowfin fight the way they feed. They smash a lure on the surface, put their head down and barrel off as deep as they can. They never fight on or close to the surface. (If one does, it's about to be nailed by a shark)
Once you (or they choose to) stop that deep run, the battle of wills commences. The tuna will use all its power to keep its head pointing downwards and you have to get its head pointing upwards. I am sure the modern reel manufacturers had tuna in mind when they first produced a two speed reel with a low gear ration for hauling stubborn fish out of the depths.
We always fish using equipment that complies with the IGFA Rules. When out trolling for marlin or yellowfin using heavy tackle, we use a 9 foot double connected to a 19ft wind on main leader to the snap swivel. The lure is rigged on a 6 - 9 foot terminal leader, depending on the lure size. Terminal leaders range from 200lb Ande for tuna bullets to 500lb Moimoi Marlin Ultra Hard for the big marlin lures. Most of the tuna lures are rigged on 130 - 200lb leader. Try to go as light as you can. Yellowfin Tuna have excellent eye sight and will shy away from a heavy leader.

This may be surprising but true showbiz talent is so much more than your actual acting ability. To really make it in the entertainment industry, your acting talent is only part of the equation. Perhaps not the fairest of facts, but a fact none the less. You'll have nothing to worry about so long as you are aware of what elements are just as important.
So what else does it take to make it as an actor, you ask? An acting teacher of mine once put it this way; "Desire and Persistence are my two best friends." Notice that talent and skill are not even mentioned. Let's look further into what showbiz talent and skills you'll truly need to succeed in this wonderful world of entertainment.
Showbiz Talent Skill #1: Personality
There is an interesting myth about acting professionals and celebrities that they are all class clowns, extroverts and outgoing. Not completely true. If you've ever had a conversation with a working actor, you'll sometimes notice a shy, quite or awkward person standing across from you. Actors, surprisingly, can be reserved.
Nobody likes loud and obnoxious, however. Everybody likes an open, warm, inviting and friendly person who is genuine and honest. Develop those positive qualities and people will want to be around you. That, my friends, is goal 'numero uno' when developing your showbiz personality. Make sure people want to be around you. Become magnetic and your showbiz talent will begin to emerge.
Showbiz Talent Skill #2: Confidence
As you start to develop and hone your personality, you'll notice something extraordinary begin to happen. You will naturally feel your self-confidence rising. This is an important part of your showbiz talent. Before I go on, allow me please to be clear about one thing here. When I refer to confidence, I am not talking about arrogance.
Certainly arrogance may be sprinkled in to your overall persona for extra flare, but you must master self-confidence before even considering arrogance. It takes a certain type of actor to benefit from a bit of arrogance. OK, back to confidence. Get it, work on it, master it. Develop your showbiz personality first and your confidence should follow suit.
Still with me? Awesome! You've accessed your personality, added some flare to it, gained the right amount of self-confidence, and... uh, what next?
Showbiz Talent Skill #3: Organizational skills
What good is this golden persona of yours if the right people do not get to experience it. The right people are not your friends and family. (They hold a much different, yet equally important, role in your showbiz life -- more on this subject later.) The right people are the people who can help get you work with your shining showbiz talent!
These people include agents, managers and casting directors. They all play a pivotal role in getting a project to the stage or screen. You really want these important players to know who you are (by name ultimately!).
The actual 'how to' get these industry professionals to know you starts with your organizational skills. Before you start thinking, "Huh, I'm an actor. How important are these skills, really?" Extremely important. Why? Because no amount of talent or charm will get you anywhere if you are unreliable. Therefor it is essential to your showbiz talent that you get organized.
Don't forget, the biz in showbiz stands for business. You absolutely must run your career like a business. You are in the business of selling you.
There are many free online tools that can help you get and stay organized. You may need to find exactly which work for you but you'll need a system in place that includes a calendar, address book for contacts, notebook for, er, notes, to-do list, thoughts, ideas, directions... you get the point. Find the tools and the system that work for you to stay organized and you'll stay ahead of your competition.
Showbiz Talent Skill #4: Motivation
You have your personality developed, your self-confidence is soaring and you are organized. So far, so good. Remember what my acting teacher once said about desire and persistence? It is vital to your showbiz talent to stay motivated and excited by your career.
There will no doubt be hurdles and some defeat along the way, so make sure you have solid support from friends and family cheering you on. It's a long journey that can be highly rewarding. Find ways to rejuvenate yourself when needed and keep growing and you'll be well on your way to a long and successful career in showbiz.
Have all these elements in place? Great. Now it is time to shine and get in front of those agents, managers and casting directors to start building your showbiz talent.
To your showbiz success...

I have a 2007 20ft angler bay boat. I spend a lot of time out on the water mainly doing inshore fishing out in flamingo and I have a small 5 in Humminbird Gps/fishfinder . i want to do an upgrade on my electronics should i go with Humminbird 997c SI Combo NVB or Lowrance HDS-8 Fishfinder/GPS Chartplotter?
In addition to RICSUDUK's comments look at both company sites, I went with the Lowrance and the reason I did, I think I always have more fuel than I do.
Display of the lowrance is good, the mapping is great, built in GPS I couldn't be happier with, and mine will also interface with the radar if I want to add that. What I really like is the add on gauges which will track my fuel, consumption and distance expected and oil tank
Hummingbird has the same stuff, the engine electronics will interface to my Merc, and put a lot of the functions in one spot. but the Hummingbird gauges are 800 a pop, and requires 2 for what I get out of the Lowrance in one and at a lot less cost, like around 160 range.
So if you are just looking for a fish finder, I like the idea of the 3d, but have no personal experience nor any of my friends. But I do like the additional electronics provided by the Lowrance, even if I am stuck with a conventional view of the bottom. I tried finding the Hummingbird stuff but could not, sorry about that wanted to show you both.
Now that you have one of those fancy Humminbird fish finders installed on your boat, what are you going to do with it? A fish finder certainly makes you look like you know what you are doing, but impressing your friends won't help you catch fish. Once you have figured out how it works and know how to adjust its settings, it's time to go fishing!
The most obvious use for your fish finder is to find depth. Why is that important? Well, fish are creatures of habit. They tend to be found at the same depth at any given time. However, there are variables. Time of the day, time of the season, water temperature, barometric pressure, and weather conditions are just a few of the variables that can determine at what depth you can find them. That's part of the fun of fishing, figuring out where they will be taking all these variables into account. Your fish finder makes finding your depth one variable you DON'T have to worry about!
Now you know how deep the water is, now you need to know what else is down there. Structure on the bottom is important to know, especially for species such as one of anglers' favorite target, the bass. Structure is where there is a variance in the contours or depths of the lake bottom. Examples include drop-offs, holes, humps (opposite of a hole), ledges, shelves, etc. This is not to be confused with what we call cover, which are natural or man-made areas for fish to hide, such as weed beds, docks, fallen trees and brush, or even a sunken boat. Structure and cover are terms oftentimes used interchangeably, so it is useful to know the distinction between the two.
Structure and cover can concentrate the quantity of fish. Whether they use it as a place to hide, wait in ambush, feed, or breed, most structure cannot be seen from above, so the fish finder is crucial in determining where it exists. Some structure can be determined based on land clues, such as a point.
Oftentimes, fish may not be directly over structure, but may be suspended at a comparable depth of prominent structure in the area. This is called fishing "off-structure." Structure may also mark a point of the traveling pattern of fish, so mapping structure can help you predict presence of fish. Knowing where structure and cover exist give you an excellent chance at a successful fishing trip.
Other useful features of your Hummingbird fishfinder include knowing water temperature. Fish often prefer certain temperatures, or are more active in certain temperatures, so knowing this will definitely be helpful. Boat speed is also important if you are trolling, so many fish finders include this feature. GPS and mapping technologies are included on many models, which can map out and save structure readings for future reference, as well as track your location
Lastly, fish finders by definition "find fish." Rather, they simply locate where a submerged solid object is located. Through adjustments made to your fish finder and user interpretation of what is displayed, you can learn where fish are located. Humminbird fish finders can be set to show fish as a "fish icon" on the screen. If disabled, fish echoes show up as an arch, allowing the user to interpret the echo to determine if it is a fish or some other object. Whichever icon mode you use, you will soon see the difference in your ability to find more fish to catch!
