Heddon Zara What Lure am I talking about? (Freswater Fisherman)?
Being primarily a freshwater shore fisherman, I see a lot of surface cover. I saw a soft-plastic lure that looks exactly like the Heddon Topwater line (Zara Spook, Super Spook, etc). Difference is that you texas rig(weightless) this huge fat plastic and you can play it on top of the cover with little worry of getting stuck.
This would give me a huge advantage as a shore fisherman who loses all his cranks in cover.
Keep in mind i fish for Largemouth with 6-10lb mono to challenge the fish with slightly longer battles. I never liked tourney style where you use super braids and rip through cover while being able to, literally, pull the fish out of the water 10 feet in front of you. Though, if i ever feel like fast action fishing, I;d definitely try the braided technique. I forgot to mention i use spinning reels only. Cheap and easy.
Thanks guys.
Yum Money Hound.
The four-and-a-quarter inch works better with a SEVEN-OUGHT monster extra-wide-gap worm hook. You'd be surprised that that chunk of plastic still floats with such a huge hook in it. And it really flies.
Bought a pack of of them at Bass Pro Shops about a month ago for my dad and we tried them today. Awesome action.
It's 5:30am and you're already on the water. The water is like glass and all is quiet around you. Next to you in the boat is a cooler filled with your favorite beverage (whether it's beer or Pepsi is up to you!). As you approach your favorite hole, you pick up your rod and tie on a surface lure. You cast your line toward the shore and present your topwater offering.
All of a sudden, the water explodes and you are in the battle of your life with a lunker largemouth! He feels like he goes maybe 3 or 4 pounds. As you get him boat side, you reach down and lift him out of the water. Larger than you expected, around 5 pounds! You turn and drop your prize into the live well and prepare for the next cast...
The thrill of topwater bass fishing is addictive. There is a BIG difference between catching that elusive largemouth off the bottom, from the middle or from the surface. Topwater bass fishing is a more visual experience than other types of fishing. There are specific types of rods and lures for topwater bass fishing.
Rods
Most anglers will tell you that a 6 to 6 ½ foot rod with a medium action will suffice. If the action of the rod is too stiff, you will yank your bait right out of the fish's mouth when you set the hook. A medium action rod is the best fit for topwater bass fishing.
These rods are available in a price range of about $20 to over $200. Do you need to spend a bunch of money on a rod? Regardless of the price tag, medium action is medium action. On the other hand, if you go with a $25 rod, you can expect $25 worth of performance. Find yourself a rod somewhere in the middle and you won't go wrong.
Lures
When it comes to lures, there are a great many to choose from. Here is a list of the top ten that I have had success with:
1. Heddon's Zara Spook.
2. Custom Bait's Senko.
3. Yum's Floating Worm (with a Texas style rig).
4. Zoom's Superfluke.
5. Heddon's Torpedo.
6. Lazer Eye's Buzzbait
7. Smithwick's Stick Bait aka Hard Jerk Bait.
8. Rebel's Pop-R bait.
9. Snag Proof's Tournament Frog.
10. Any spinner bait. These are manufactured by numerous companies.
All these lures have their own unique presentations. When presented properly, these baits are historically known to produce quality bass. This is true across regional boundaries, weather conditions and water temps.
A big tip
Now you have the rod and the lures you need for topwater bass fishing, there is one more thing you should know. Here it is: Since topwater fishing is a visual type of fishing, most anglers will set the hook too soon and jerk the lure right out of the fish's mouth. To prevent this, do NOT set the hook immediately when you see the strike! Wait a second, reel in some slack and when you feel the pressure of the bass on the line, THEN set the hook. You will boat more lunkers that way and be a much happier fisherman to boot.

From the King Cobra 460 Driver to their new LD Driver Series
The King Cobra SZ 460 model was introduced in 2005 and is still considered a very technologically advanced golf club. If you don't swing like the pros and still want to get great distance, this is your driver.
The Cobra driver has the largest club face of all the 460 cc drivers on the market. Cobra's improvements in the materials and club construction included placing a pair of steel inserts near the bottom rear of the club head. This substantially lowered the club's center of gravity. The large club face hosted a deep rhombus shaped center.
A large, but thinner titanium ring created a huge sweet spot. The cobra engineers were so pleased, they named the club SZ for, what else, Sweet Spot.
The King Cobra 460 SZ driver was built to respond well to a wide variety of golf swings and striking the club head at different slightly different places and at different angles. The results were long and forgiving drives that helped reduce the golfer's score. The club is still popular today and with the advent of the Cobra LD and Speed LD drivers, have become an outstanding value. The 460cc drivers, which were introduced in 2005 with a suggested retail price of $370.00, are now available at our retail partner Austad's Golf for under $200.00.
If you are looking for a used Cobra golf club driver, shop online for some teriffic prices or check out the Ebay auctions.
Despite the King Cobra 460 driver's great success, Cobra Golf's new entries into the never ending "best golf driver" race are the Speed LD and Speed Pro drivers. Even more forgiving than their older 460 sz cousins, Cobra is laying claim to the "longest, straightest and most forgiving woods" the company has ever offered. The LD stands for Limit Dimensions, which is Cobra's way of telling you they have pushed the driver specifications to the very limit of the USGA rules. The MOI or moment of inertia has a value of 5,000, which is too technical to capture your interest, but the MOI is as high as any all-titanium driver on the market today. However, the key ingredient is the Cobra speed tuning feature , which matches the golfer's individual ball speed, shaft and grip with appropriate Cobra LD driver. The three basic models; LD X (extreme), LD F (fast), LD-M (moderate) feature different loft, club length, face angle, shaft type and flex.
The LD M is probably going to be the most popular as it nicely matches the swing skills of the average golfer. The light weights in both the club face and the shaft help keep the club head square at impact, reducing the tendency to slice or hook the golf ball. The LD M models for men include Straight Neck, Offset and Seniors.
Cobra hasn't forgotten the ladies and the Speed LD M women's driver has a little lighter loft and even less weight to help get the ball off the tee and well down the fairway.
If you are interested in a Cobra driver, the best prices are usually found online. The Cobra Speed series was introduced in a Cobra press release at $480.00. Discount LD models are now available for $299.00.
King Cobra Drivers, whether the tried and true cobra 460 cc driver or the new Speed LD models are an excellent choice for both the PGA tour pro and the weekend amateur golfer.
Is there a solution for removing rust stains from soft plastic?
I have a metal ruler which had surface rust, Brasso took most of that off but it's left rust stains in the plastic sheeth, obviously I can't use Brasso on that (for one I can't get my fingers inside it!)
Aren't there any chemists out there? Surely you guys must know some simple liquid solution that will work to remove rust stains!?
The sheeth is 30cm in length, I don't happen to have a q-tip that long
Yep, you need to reduce it to a clear/soluble form of Iron and just rinse it.
A couple of things can do this - acids are one, and not recommended. Citric acid will work, as well as some inhibited mineral acids.
The other thing is Sodium Sulfite, found in hardware stores as Iron out. This is what I would use.
HOWEVER - if you scrubbed the plastic already - you likely glazed over the 'pores' of the plastic harboring the iron making it much harder to clear. Soak for a while in warm/hot iron out solution (doesnt have to be really concentrated) and see what happens.
Hydrogen peroxide will not work - and will accelerate corrosion of the metal rule. Sodium hypochrolite (aka bleach) will not work and corrode the metal ruler as well.
If you're going to be a successful smallmouth bass angler, you need to understand the difference between the different smallmouth bass lures and what the different lures have to offer. In this article I'm going to discuss what the different lures are, and a little information about each. This way you can decide which is the best of the smallmouth bass lures. All of these choices have their place in smallmouth bass fishing.
Top Water Lures - when it comes to smallmouth bass lures top water lures are some of the most effective. The big thing to keep in mind with top water lures is there needs to be flat, or almost flat, water. Top water lures fished on flat water, early in the morning or late in the evening, can be one of the most fun and exciting forms of smallmouth bass fishing. Top water lures are among the most effective smallmouth bass lures. Some of the most popular are the Jitterbug and the Tiny Torpedo.
Soft Baits - soft baits come in the form of plastic worms, twister tails, and slog-o's. There are many methods of fishing soft baits for smallmouth bass with one of the most effective being using a jig head and a twister tail. Soft baits used to be made from exclusively rubber, but are now made from all sorts of man-made products that actually help attract fish. Some of the most popular of these soft baits for smallmouth bass are the Berkley Power and Gulp products. The Berkley soft baits are made in every shape imaginable from worms to crawfish.
Spinnerbaits - Spinnerbaits are an effective smallmouth bass lure and is designed to attract the bass with the flash of the spinner and then "seal the deal" with the jig looking hook. These baits are very effective around weed beds and underwater trees. Some of the most popular Spinnerbaits are Terminator® Tiny T Spinnerbaits and Strike King® Compact Premier™ Pro-Model® Spinnerbaits.
Crank Baits - crank baits are among the best known and most used smallmouth bass baits. Crank baits are normally made to imitate minnows or shad. There are also crank baits that imitate crayfish, but the small fish imitations are the most popular. When it comes to smallmouth bass lures crank baits may be the best choice. Some of the most popular crank baits are the KickTail minnow and the Rapala minnow.
The fishing lures just mentioned are among the best to use when fishing for smallmouth bass. Is one the best? That's impossible to say. They all have their place when fishing for these bass. The one caveat I would add from my 25 years of smallmouth fishing experience, is that the more realistic your smallmouth bass lures are the better. The more your lure looks like what the bass normally eat, the more effective that lure will be.
Japan Lures Were you lured into smoking by menthol? (smokers only)?
According to a story in the news (http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/25707639/), tobacco companies use low levels of menthol to get kids to like their first cigarettes. They make stronger menthol cigarettes for people who have been smoking a long time.
My question: do you think this is true? I don't. My first cigarettes were not menthols, although I started smoking them many years later. And I have not moved to strong menthols - I prefer light menthols even now. Was this your experience?
There is legislation afoot to ban fruit- and candy-flavored cigarettes. But there aren't any such cigarettes on the market in the US that I know of. I have heard of them being sold in Japan. Do Japanese kids like them? Why ban something that isn't on the market anyway?
It sounds to me like the government is trying to "appear" to be doing something, but in reality it is trying to fix a problem that doesn't exist! What do you think?
I totally agree with your answer. When i first smoked I smoked regular lights, I have now moved to menthol lights.

Landscape paintings are a very popular form of art. By learning more about them, you could help make yourself love and appreciate them even more.
When you are searching for prints or posters to add to your walls, you will very often find several paintings that are completed by a landscape artist. Originals from the master painters are probably not in your price range, but a print or reproduction is probably more in your budget. This makes the landscapes by such artists as Monet, Constable, and Pissarro very accessible to all kinds of people.
Amateur artists most often choose landscapes for their first works. This may be due to the lack of studio space and the ease in which it is possible to find a subject out in the natural world. Most landscape artists before the time of Impressionism, painted inside their home or studio, working by memory or from drawings. Monet and Renoir took their work outside and were considered weird because they did so.
Landscape painting is done in many countries. Landscapes are particular predominant in Japan, Holland, the United States, France, and Britain. European landscape artists were influenced by two Japanese artists during the 19th century. Hokusai and Hiroshige painted images of mountain ranges, forests, and the ocean using bright colors. From the twentieth century forward, other forms of art began to occupy the time and effort of artists and critics. Abstract Expressionism, Surrealism, and Cubism became much more popular. This has made landscape painting somewhat unfashionable.
Most of the general public still loves purchasing and looking at landscapes. They feel very connected to the subject and this is even more evident when it reminds them of an area in their past. A portrait or still life will not evoke the same kind of response in most cases. You will find in looking at landscape paintings that some painters paint the same area. Paul Cezanne was a big example of this, due to the fact that he painted the same mountain range around eight times. The Montagne Sainte Victoire, near his home in France, became one of his favorite subjects. He enjoyed painting it in different seasons and different weather conditions.
Two of the first European landscape artists to paint the ocean were Rembrandt and Vermeer, both Dutch painters. Some artists enjoy painting sky and water as their recurring themes. JMW Turner, and English artists, enjoyed painting seas and stormy skies, but his paintings later turned to a more abstract painting of blurring the sea and the skies together. Monet perfected his water technique by sitting in a rowboat on the water. This helped him to get as close as possible to his subject. Winslow Homer and Andrew Wyeth are well-known American landscape artists who are well known for their ability to capture light on the water.
What color tights can I wear with navy blue shirt dress and light brown knee hi boots?
I have a navy blue shirt dress from the Gap and I have these great knee high boots that are a camel color. The dress is on the short side so I don't want to wear just stockings. What color tights would be able to be worn with this?
I think a white would be fine. Wear a neutral colour so that your boots and dress stands out rather than the tights.
I need to know how to fish for Saltwater Striped bass. My dad and I fish for Skipjacks. We like it because we catch one fish after the other. Right. So my dad caught a striper. Out of the blue going for skipjacks and we ate it. It was so delicious. I want to go for striper. We go at a good spot where hardly any body knows. Very few go along the rocks and get striper and they catch them. I want to learn how to catch them. Should i attach a live skipjack to a big hook and just cast it out? There a technique in reeling the pole in?
Oh sorry. SkipJack is an adolesent form of Blue fish. like Baby blue fish. They are about 10 inchs long.
Bait works best for stripers although you could also catch on lures. For bait use bunker (menhaden), mackerel, or whole clams. During the summer it seems to hit skimmer clams better than bunker or mackerel. If you are going to use a lure, try a two-ounce castmaster or a yellow Danny plug. Yellow because I've had success with that. Yet bait is best. As far as set up you'll need a 4 to 5 oz pyramid sinker, a three way swivel with sinker snap and a 8/0 or 9/0 hook. And you could use live eels. When you say skipjack, I immediately think of little tunny. Skipjacks are related to the tuna family and are usuallly two to three pounds. You could use them for bass bait but you're going to have to chunk the skipjack into pieces to put on the hook.
Need an online competency test for international students?
I'm looking for an online competency test that our school can give to international students. It should test basic English and logic skills and return a score. It can be either free or we can pay for it.
We have a paper test (Wonderlic), but it's too late for internationals to take that after they've flown all the way here only to discover they don't have the basic skills needed to study in our classroom.
Note also that the test should be timed.
How about the TOEFL (Test of english as a foreign language)? That doesn't test logic, but it is the only test that I know of for English that is readily available to international students.
Dreams of flying are very common and most people can recall having flown in a dream or two. They are some of my favorite dreams, and they do seem very real. Dreams of flying are said to indicate feeling in control or 'on top of' a situation. These type of dreams are usually carefree and celebrate a sense of 'freedom'.
Flying in dreams is very rarely unpleasant, usually when the dreamer lands, it is with a gentle floating down to earth. This type of dream is often a positive and liberating experience, shedding our earthbound physical limitations. Flying high may indicate our aspirations or may suggest that we are seeking a new perspective on some aspect of our lives. They also suggests the desire to rise above things, to attain greater heights, to break free of limiting viewpoints or cultural norms. Flying in dreams can be seen as a symbol of self-confidence and self-esteem.
Many ancient myths speak of the connection between flying and sexuality and while flying itself has become commonplace these days, old interpretations can still hold true. Modern symbolic interpretations of flying include the image of worldliness, expansive ideas and communications. Some modern dreams experts interpret these dreams exclusively as a desire to get away from problematic situations or to cross one's own boundaries, also some other researchers believe that most dreams about flying are just a sign that we want to recuperate and refresh ourselves.
Some say that we are remembering our ability to fly when we are"between lives"; also some say that in our dream state we do go out of our bodies and that the dream is a real memory of our travels during sleep; and some say that dreams of flying signify a desire for freedom and physical control within our environment- or are an expression of the level of freedom and control that we feel we have. If you go to sleep with the intention to fly, you may be able to make it happen, and also consciously develop your flying ability. The sense of freedom in flying dreams may open the dreamer's mind to infinite possibilities. If you are flying with ease it could indicate that you are achieving all that you want to. It could be argued that dreaming of flying is a natural progression as we grow.
Freud described dreams about flying as 'typical' because they occur in large numbers of people with very similar content, Freud, however did not dream of flying himself though. Freudian psychology states that for men, dreams of flying are usually associated with sex, while women who dream of falling, are succumbing to sexual temptation. Carl Jung's idea was that in a flying dream we are expressing our desire to break free of restrictions and limitations.
It can said that,if the dreamer is flying like a bird, then he can accomplish his goals on his own ,also if the dreamer is flying in an airplane, or other sort of airship, he will need assistance. To dream that you are flying with black wings, signifies bitter disappointments. On the other hand, wings are associated with flying, which in turn is associated with freedom and the heavenly domain. To see a flying machine in your dream, foretells of steady satisfactory progress in your future endeavors. Dreams of flying are also indications of astral travel. Some people believe that flying in our dreams can be an actual out of body experience, that we go to places on this physical plane as well as into the inner planes, astrally speaking.
Obstacles like power lines, mountains and trees in a flying dream can be dream state manifestations of actual barriers in your waking life. For instance, if you feel that roadblocks are constantly going up in your life, you may see these roadblocks manifested as trees, mountains, power lines or other hazards in your flying dream
I hear flying in dreams are almost universal among humans, like dreams of teeth falling out or going out in public naked. To a human, dreams of flying are the ultimate fantasy. I personally had an ongoing series of flying dreams as a child which I absolutely adored, and I consciously worked in my dreams to improve my flying ability, and went to greater and greater heights.
Who's to say that dreams of flying are just dreams. They are often described as joyful, fun and exhilarating, and flying dreams are often among the most pleasant dream experiences. Flying dreams are some of the most pleasurable dreams I personally have ever had.
Flying is probably mankind's greatest dream, it is a deep-rooted topic in ancient literature and still fascinates us today. Dreams of flying are some of the most interesting types of dreams for dream researchers and psychologists. There are many reasons to dream of flying, and many ways such a dream can play itself out. No matter what the dream represents, flying remains one of the most fertile fields in the world of dream interpretation.
I started fresh water fishing last year and I really do enjoy it. My wife bought me a Quatum bait caster reel and I am having trouble with casting it so the line does not tangle up. I have become very good with the standard spinning reels. But this works differently with the magnetics and the setting of the drag. point me in the right direction.
montanz,
Level-winds (bait casting reels) can be difficult at first but like anything else, practice makes perfect (know ya' really wanted ta' hear that). Do ya' know what pound test is on your reel? A heavier lb., test 20 - 25# is a little more easier than say 10 or 12 # , so whatever is on the reel ya' might want ta' go to the heavier side. Thumb control on the spool is a big part of it because once your lure hits the water without that thumb control that's when the old birds-nest (tangle as you put it ) happens. Also the spool brake (instructions and specs that Quantum gives should show ya' what I'm referrin' to), by havin' it to loose the spool rotates faster, by tighten' it up the slower the spool will rotate. Now that I've probably confused the H _ _ l outta' ya' I've listed a link that may help you out!? It's not the best link, but am hopin' that it'll do a lot better job explainin' that I did!!@x#!%!! Good luck to you and who knows ya' just might be showin' someone else how ta' cast em'. ...
Note:Once on site, click How To, then click Baitcasting Setup.
