i'm really interested in giving this a bash for the grayling in the river taff but don't know how to set up the line. i'll be using a 10ft 4# rod with a floating line so that's ok but i'm lost from there. ie how long should the leeder be, how far apart should the flies be, casting, which should be the heaviest fly on which dropper or point etc.
i'm quite new to this and can't find any info anywhere. any help would be much appreciated

A bag or box is another essential for carrying all of your fishing tackle with you. You might be spending all day fishing, and so will need additional food and drinks, as well as all your tackle, so you need to make sure that the bag or box you choose will be big enough.
You might need different sorts of clothing depending on where and when you fish, and what you fish for. If you're going to be fishing for salmon, and spending all day stood in a river, you're going to need warm and waterproof clothing with big easy to access pockets, so that you can get what you need even if your hands are wet and cold.

I usually throw in shrimp and catch the catfish and the small sand shark and some weird thing silvery small looking fish (cant member the name tho) that keeps jumping out of the water. I want to go out there and catch something at least 5 pounds. any hints on bait, lures, tackle, line, techniques, or advice of any kind??? Im going right off the beach near my hotel and going toward the sand bar. THANKS!!!
Those silver fish might be called lady fish they aint good to eat.
I would get some good surf rods maybe 8 footers or more and get what they call a Pompano rig it has 3 hooks and your sinker clips on the bottom . You might need a heavy sinker 3 ounces or more. 20 pound line should work good . you can use lighter if your not fishing near piers , docks , or Rocks
For bait use sand fleas or shrimp. Shrimp catches most all ocean fish
You can also use live finger mullet , or Pinfish . I am not sure where your at but if your far enough south Snook are biting good. And they like the live mullet and pinfish
I am tired so I will add more later but you can also cast silver spoons , Mirror lures, Berkley gulp shrimp, DOA shrimp jigs, and exude minnows rigged on a jig head . When fishing lures fish them fairly fast and erratic saltwater fish are more active than bass.
Try fishing off piers or docks if ya get a chance.
I am getting my boyfriend a G Loomis for his birthday. He does a lot of saltwater flats fishing as well freshwater bass fishing and such. I think the IMX or the Greenwater series is going to be my best bet, but I don't know which one. I don't want to ask him because that would ruin the suprise . . . PLEASE HELP me someone with fishing knowledge!!
G Loomis GLX series #BCR893 is a great crossover rod for bass and flats fishing. 7'5" MH action for Senko's but this rod has the power closer to tip for great hooksets and BIG fish. They run $370 at BassPro but I have seen them on Ebay for under $300. Can you find out from one of his fishing buddies if they think this is a good choice? Chances are they will smile ear-to-ear at the mere mention of it.

You may get lucky and find yourself a last years model for that price but doubtful. I have a Garmin 172 model I bought a few years ago. You will have to buy the software for any gps you decide to get. The software I bought was 149.99 and it covers from Louisiana to mobile bay. This software shows you very good detail of your waterways you will fish and run. You are able to plot all of your honey holes and show a live tracking of your routes you take to get to them then store them. You are able to purchase a transducer and have a combination of fish finder as well. The Garmin 172 cost me 349.99 and the transducer was an additional 159.99. After the wife chewed me out it's one of the best investments I've installed in my boat up to date. I hope the info has helped you make up your mind.
